Historic Railroad Trail Segment (Pictures at bottom of page)

In 1996, the National Park Service, Boulder City and the Bureau of Reclamation applied and received an ISTEA grant for the extension of the Historic Railroad Trail to the vicinity of Hoover Dam.  The trail is proposed to connect with the parking garage but due to topography and the historic setting, this piece has been quiet tricky.  Follow this link to see nine pictures of this section being worked on. This 70 foot piece of the trail connects the top of the Hoover Dam Parking structure to the "Historic Railroad Trail" segment.  The Railroad trail ends in the electrical switchyard.  This segment of the trail goes straight up a wall.  Impressive.  (May 25, 2004.)

Tunnel five is open, (but will close again in the near future to undergo shotcreting). The trail will follow the path  to the maintenance building, swing around back (left side) and on to the dam.  Photo by John Holman.
