MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY

River Mountains Loop Trail Project

OCT 27TH 2001

The day started at 6:30 a.m. for team captains and sergeants with set up and a captains meeting. The place was Haley Hendricks Park in East Henderson Foothills. A centennial Breakfast was available to volunteers at 7:00a.m. provided by Railroad Pass Hotel and Casino.

Volunteer registration was will underway by 7:30a.m. being headed up by Kristine Roberts and the Clark County Leadership Forum. By 7:45a.m. the first bus loads of volunteers head to their assigned work area led by their Team Captains. By 8:30a.m. the last load of volunteers were on there way....All told we had 130 volunteers. Divided up into three work areas and 10 work teams. During 3 ½ hours of trail clean up we cleared 6 miles of trail corridor 600 feet wide. We filled four dumpsters or approximately 100 cubic yards of trash. The event also saw removal of 6 burned out, shot-up vehicles within the trail corridor.

Southwest Gas Trail hikers provided lunch for the crew on SWG grills. Lunch service started at 11:00 a.m. and ran until 12:30p.m. Clean up was done by 2:00p.m.

Everyone had fun and it was a most successful event. The group is already planning next years clean up event for another six mile segment of new River Mountains Loop Trail.

Speeches were made by Alan O'Neill, Executive Director of Outside Las Vegas Foundation; Dan Steward, President & CEO The LandWell Co. sponsors of the tee-shirts for our event; Kristine Roberts, Trail Coordinator for Clark County, and yours truly Chairman of the River Mountains Trail Partnership Advisory Council.

A special thank you to you for your continued support in "Making a Difference".

As a side note, the "Make A Difference Day" trail committee also made two brochures which we mailed to area homes and handed out to our volunteers.  These handouts will take "Adobe Acrobat" software to open.
