The day started at 6:30 a.m. for team captains and sergeants with set up and
a captains meeting. The place was Haley Hendricks Park in East Henderson
Foothills. A centennial Breakfast was available to volunteers at 7:00a.m.
provided by Railroad Pass Hotel and Casino.
Volunteer registration was will underway by 7:30a.m. being headed up by
Kristine Roberts and the Clark County Leadership Forum. By 7:45a.m. the first
bus loads of volunteers head to their assigned work area led by their Team
Captains. By 8:30a.m. the last load of volunteers were on there way....All
told we had 130 volunteers. Divided up into three work areas and 10 work
teams. During 3 ½ hours of trail clean up we cleared 6 miles of trail corridor
600 feet wide. We filled four dumpsters or approximately 100 cubic yards of
trash. The event also saw removal of 6 burned out, shot-up vehicles within
the trail corridor.
Southwest Gas Trail hikers provided lunch for the crew on SWG grills. Lunch
service started at 11:00 a.m. and ran until 12:30p.m. Clean up was done by
2:00p.m.
Everyone had fun and it was a most successful event. The group is already
planning next years clean up event for another six mile segment of new River
Mountains Loop Trail.
