This is Segment #1

This segment is Now Open for your hiking, biking, etc enjoyment. A trail head is under design for the Pacifica Way and RMLT trail intersection.

The Hemenway Way Wash Segment was the first segment of the trail to be completed as part of a flood control project in 1993.

BASELINE INFORMATION

 SEGMENT NUMBER. 1

 APPROXIMATE LENGTH:  1.5 miles

 SEGMENT ENDPOINTS:

START:    Lake Mead National Recreation Area/ Boulder City boundary at Pacifica Way Historic Railroad Trailhead.

FINISH:   River Mountains Trail Trailhead parking lot off of US 93 just southwest of Hemenway Park

 SEGMENT NARRATIVE:

 The trail utilizes a concrete channel that doubles as a flood control structure for the Hemenway Wash and runs uphill in a westerly direction, parallel to US 93. There are numerous connections to side streets and to Hemenway Park . This trail segment was the first segment of the River Mountains Loop Trail to be completed as part of a flood control project in 1993.

 EXISTING AUTHORIZED USES (S):

 EXISTING TRAIL CONDITIONS:

 TRAIL WIDTH: 15 feet

 TRAIL TREAD/SURFACE. Concrete

 OTHER FEATURES:  Multi-purpose flood control channel

LAND OWNERSHIP AND OTHERS WITH EASEMENTS OR OTHER LEGAL ACCESS:  

Boulder City holds ownership and easements for trail use. The trail lies within US 93 (NDOT) right-of- way. Trail is included on the Boulder City and Regional Transportation Commission's bicycle plans.

LEAD TRAIL PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT ENTITY:  

Boulder City  

PROPOSED OR PENDING LAND USE CHANGES/OR OTHER OPPORTUNITIES OR OBSTACLES:  

There is a US 93 corridor study under-way that could present opportunities for trail enhancements. The trail is relatively steep with a 5% slope.

. TRAIL DEVELOPMENT OVERVIEW:  

SUMMARY: This is an existing trail segment.  

There is currently no equestrian access and no additional planning for such access has been done. Boulder City plans to develop a trailhead at Pacifica Way that will include paved parking, signs, and a kiosk. The current U.S. Highway 93-coriridor study is under-way and trail opportunities should be examined as part of this planning effort, considering possible trail enhancements. Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is the lead agency in the transportation planning effort.
