Segment 12

The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) has agreed to construct segments 11 and 12 as part of the pipeline installation associated with the new water treatment plant located on the western slope of the River Mountains.

Segments 11 & 12 will be paved by SNWA in early 2001 followed by Segment 13 being completed by City of Henderson early 2001. STAY TUNED for a possible trail dedication event spring 2001.

=====================

___ other (walking, jogging, rollerblading)

EXISTING TRAIL CONDITIONS:

This is a newly developed 25 foot trail corridor with paved and gravel components.

TRAIL WIDTH: 10 feet

TRAIL TREAD/SURFACE: Asphalt/Gravel

OTHER FEATURES: Will need safety and security measures to manage motorized access.

LAND OWNERSHIP AND OTHERS WITH EASEMENTS OR OTHER LEGAL ACCESS:

Bureau of Reclamation withdrawn lands for water and power purposes. Easements held by SNWA, Colorado River Commission, Nevada Power, and BLM. Within City of Henderson and build out boundary.

LEAD TRAIL PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT ENTITY:

City of Henderson and SNWA

PROPOSED) OR PENDING LAND USE CHANGES/OR OTHER OPPORTUNITIES OR OBSTACLES:

There is a proposed Nevada Power contract for PDP project (co-location with Colorado River Commission and SNWA). R10water tank is within 200 feet of trail. There is a potential future power line project and associated access roads along an existing IPP power line that could impact the trail. The trail is included in the City of Henderson's comprehensive plan.

TRAIL DEVELOPMENT OVERVIEW

SUMMARY: This trail segment is complete but it will need signage and security measures. There is a steep slope that will require relocation to decrease the grade and/or signage warning of the hazard. The City of Henderson has applied for a TEA 21 grant (I 1/2000) to bridge the Drake Channel. There is also a need to evaluate options to improve the equestrian tread, which currently consists of a narrow gravel path alongside the existing paved component.

Remember desert tortoises and big horn sheep have the "right-of-way" and are not to be disturbed
 even if they are on the trail or block your way.
