Segment 14 Segment 14 is perhaps the most difficult challenge that remains. This
segment of the trail lies on Bureau of Reclamation land that is subject to
exchange to the Lake Las Vegas. The segment follows Lake Mead Drive and
passes in close proximity to a geoglyph site and the entrance to the Lake Las
Vegas. The major issue is land ownership and getting an easement to cross
lands owned by the 3-kid mine.
===================== SEGMENT NUMBER: 14 Proposed: __x __ Existing: ______ APPROXIMATE LENGTH: 2.6 miles SEGMENT ENDPOINTS: START: Intersection with underpass to Wetlands Park FINISH: Lake Mead NRA boundary just south of
entrance station SEGMENT NARRATIVE: Trail travels northeast skirting a hill near a geoglyph site connecting
with NDOT right-of-way. (The NDOT right-of-way ends at the Three Kids Mine
property.) It continues east within a disturbed abandoned telephone corridor
along the graded shoulder of Lake Mead Drive. It crosses the entrance to
Lake Las Vegas and accesses the BMI pipeline corridor. This trail corridor
extends to the East Access Road to Lake Las Vegas through private property
owned by Three Kids Mine, crosses the East Access Road to Lake Las Vegas and
follows Lake Mead Drive to the NPS boundary. Note. The exact routing of the segment may change given the
pending land exchange with Lake Las Vegas. Lake Las Vegas has the final
discretion regarding the trails' exact location and design consistent with
City of Henderson standards. EXISTING AUTHORIZED USES (S): * This is an undeveloped trail segment. ___ hiking ___ mountain bicycling ___ road bicycling ___ horseback riding ____other (walking, jogging, rollerblading) EXISTING TRAIL CONDITIONS: * This is an undeveloped trail segment. TRAIL WIDTH: TRAIL TREAD/SURFACE: OTHER FEATURES: LAND OWNERSHIP AND OTHERS WITH EASEMENTS OR OTHER LEGAL ACCESS: Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation could withdraw lands for
water and power purposes. Easements held by BLM and SNWA. Trail corridor
could potentially cross Lake Las Vegas and Three Kids Mine properties
dependent on final alignment. LEAD TRAIL PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT ENTITY- City of Henderson PROPOSED OR PENDING LAND USE CHANGES/OR OTHER OPPORTUNITIES OR OBSTACLES- Portion of trail will potentially cross Three Kids Mine property subject
to final alignment and design decisions by Lake Las Vegas. The trail segment
is identified in the City of Henderson's comprehensive trails plan. TRAIL DEVELOPMENT OVERVIEW: SUMMARY- This segment of the trail corridor ties on Bureau of Land
Management land that is subject to exchange to the Lake Las Vegas. The
segment follows Lake Mead Drive and passes in close proximity to a geoglyph
site and the entrance to Lake Las Vegas. This trail is included in the landscape improvement project design manual
for Lake Mead Drive. This design approved by the City of Henderson includes
a trail corridor on the north side of Lake Mead Drive within the City of
Henderson. Lake Las Vegas has agreed to construct a recreational trail
according to the standards of the landscape improvement manual along Lake
Mead Drive to the Lake Mead NRA boundary once the land exchange is completed
and the lands are annexed into the City of Henderson. The trail will likely
be completed within 3-5 years of annexation.
Remember desert tortoises and big horn sheep have the
"right-of-way" and are not to be disturbed
