The River Mountains are a non-motorized use area.  The River Mountains Loop Trail is a non-motorized trail.   
No ATVs, no OHVs, no motorcycles, no dirt bikes.

Segment 21

We expect to go to bid in the summer of 2001 with completion in the Fall of 2001 of segment 21.

SEGMENT NUMBER: 21

APPROXIMATE LENGTH: 3.2 miles

SEGMENT ENDPOINTS:

START: Intersection of Lakeshore Drive and road to Lake Mead Marina.

FINISH: Lawler Junction Trailhead

SEGMENT NARRATIVE:

This segment follows an existing pedestrian/bike trail (Boulder Beach Trail) that runs along the east side of Lakeshore Drive from Lake Mead Marina to the Alan Bible Visitor Center. The existing trail is a narrow dirt trail and it provides a direct route to the Alan Bible Visitor Center without significant grade changes. This segment will tie into a connector to Hoover Dam.

EXISTING AUTHORIZED USES (S):

x    hiking

x   mountain bicycling

__ road bicycling

__ horseback riding

___ other (walking, jogging, rollerblading)

EXISTING TRAIL CONDITIONS:

* A portion of this proposed trail corridor is existing.

TRAIL WIDTH: 2-3 feet

TRAIL TREAD/SURFACE:  Dirt/Gravel

OTHER FEATURES:  Narrow track, connects major recreation facilities along Boulder Beach

LAND OWNERSHIP AND OTHERS WITH EASEMENTS OR OTHER LEGAL ACCESS:

National Park Service on Bureau of Reclamation lands withdrawn for water and power purposes.

LEAD TRAIL PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT ENTITY- National Park Service

PROPOSED OR PENDING LAND USE CHANGES/OR OTHER OPPORTUNITIES OR OBSTACLES:

Proposed for upgrade by the National Park Service.

SUMMARY: The primary route is an existing trail on the east side of Lakeshore Drive. The trail will require upgrades to accommodate multiple use. With funding provided through a grant under the SNPLMA, a new trail will be constructed paralleling Lakeshore Drive and providing access to Boulder Beach between Lake Mead Marina and the Alan Bible Visitor Center.
