Notes from the May 22, 2007 monthly River Mountains Trails Partnership meeting:

Trail Planning and Development Reports

-          Recap of the RMLT Partnership Wetlands Bridge Meeting

o
Setting was unique – extensive restoration of disturbed habitat
o
One of the longest bridges in the County
o
Will be One of the premier spots for hikers and bikers
o
City is building trails into Rainbow Gardens and nearby city wetlands park

Trail Segment Reports -  Segment 5 (between Railroad Pass Casino and Boulder City)

-          Railroad crossing – PUC – Public Utilities Commission – still holding application
-          NDOT wanted a complex railroad crossing at the site
-          PUCN lost Boulder City comments to NDOT’s report.
-          Have sent a new package to NDOT for comment
-          PUCN has not held a public comment meeting
-          Project has been given a docket number by the PUC
-          Ron Gregory inquired about this project on behalf of Commissioner Bruce Woodbury
-          We may be able to use this to move this review ahead
-          Henderson railroad crossing was put in without PUCN approval – NDOT still holding some funding back
-          PUCN has given this project some priority as they lost the first round of comments

Segments 17-22  (Boulder City to Lake Las Vegas in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area)

-          NPS has awarded the entire 17 mile project
-          Pre-construction meeting with SBBI scheduled for May 31, 2007
-          9 month construction schedule
-          Work will begin on the Boulder City side (Segment 22) and progress to the north
-          Project is fully funded now.
-          Need to coordinate with Henderson on segment 14 to make sure the trails meet
-          There is interest within the partnership to have some form of ground breaking ceremony

Develop Loops off of the River Mountains Loop Trail

o      Take one of the rest areas and find an hour loop from that point

o
Railroad Pass is a good opportunity going north and exit near the water tank  - there is a route in to Bootleg Canyon
o
Contact the local equestrian community to see what routes are being used
o
May be a route near the “B” on the west slope of the River Mountains
o
There is a potential route at 33 Hole within Lake Mead NRA

Rocks on the Trail at ATV crossings

-          Trails need to be sweep regularly
-          If the intersections are paved, it would reduce the amount of rock on the trail. Add curbs.
-          Trail Watch Program will help with this issue – we need to have the users help sweep the trail
-          May need to place boulders in strategic areas
-          An alternative is to use post and cable barriers

Trail Enforcement

-          City of Henderson is patrolling the trail at least once per day
-          Transitioning into bicycle from ATV patrols in the near future
-          Pat Moors is the Lieutenant
-          Community Policing Center is to be located at Lake Las Vegas fire station
-          Contact Capt. Bob Vadasy concerning a special event on Henderson part of the trail
-          Forward any complaints we receive to Capt. Bob Vadasy at ph 267-4503
